#musicmonday – Peach playlist

I thought this week, with updates seemingly close but not yet ready to share, that I’d post a #musicmonday playlist. As I have rambled on about enough, the unfairly gifted Charlie Baker is recording an original soundtrack for Peach – but here are some songs that have featured on playlists over the last seven or eight years (some of them more recent, of course) that I have normally been listening to when writing the story.

I’m not normally the greatest at writing whilst listening to music, I mean, I can write dialogue and ideas, but going through a plot, I normally need silence. Nonetheless these songs all make me think of writing Peach and lyrically many of them say things that I was trying to say in about one hundred and fifty seven thousand more words…

I’m Not The One – Pete Yorn

“…in this world are we just strangers when we fail to make a connection…”

Prince Of The City – Jacobstone

“…I’m the prince of the city by the bay… no-one hears, I am singing today”

This City (Is Bound To Do Us In) – The Break and Repair Method

“‘That is mine’ is the cry of the century, but I understand, cos I don’t wanna be alone and I don’t wanna be left out, I don’t care if I’m the one you love, just let me be the one you need right now”

Do You Realize?? – The Flaming Lips

“…and instead of saying all of your goodbyes, let them know you realise that life goes fast, it’s hard to make the good things last, you realise the sun doesn’t go down, it’s just an illusion caused by the world spinning round..”

(If you get past the hipster part of it, this is an incredible live performance)

Falling Out Of Love At This Volume – Bright Eyes

“Tell me what you wanted to hear / Let me do the right thing / Let me do the wrong thing”

The Game Of Love – Gregg Alexander

“Love is whatever you make it to be, sunshine instead of this cold, lonely sea – So please baby try and use me for what I’m good for”

In Transit – Albert Hammond Jr.

“Free from it all… I’m not gonna change ’til I want to”

Reservations – Wilco

“How can I convince you it’s me I don’t like / And not be so indifferent to the look in your eyes /When I’ve always been distant / And I’ve always told lies for love”

The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore – Walker Brothers

Wildflowers – Tom Petty

“…You belong somewhere you feel free…”

Soul – Matchbox Twenty

“There’s always something tearing you apart, it’s always so much longer than you counted on”

She Don’t Want Nobody Near – Counting Crows

“She don’t want nobody near but you can’t get away from that / They appear and disappear and they all get a string attached”

So Alive – Ryan Adams

“If this is how I feel, then nothing now is true”

Old Boy – Pete Yorn

“We are growing old together / we are growing up together”
